Club Social: BBQ, Beach Games & Brilliant Company
Who says triathletes only bond over suffering? Last month's club BBQ proved that we're just as good at relaxing (sort of) as we are at training.
The Venue
Sandbanks Beach provided the perfect backdrop for our summer social. Thirty-five club members, plus partners and families, descended on our reserved spot armed with BBQ equipment, coolers full of drinks, and an unexpectedly competitive attitude toward beach volleyball.
The Food
Dave manned the BBQ (as is tradition) and proved once again why he's the unofficial club chef. Burgers, sausages, halloumi skewers, and some questionable potato salad that Mike made (we love you Mike, but maybe stick to cycling).
Sarah brought her famous brownies which disappeared in approximately four minutes.
The Entertainment
Beach volleyball tournament got seriously competitive. Who knew that triathletes' natural competitiveness would extend to ball sports?
Final: Team "Transition Troubles" vs Team "Brick Sessions" - Brick Sessions won 15-13 in a nail-biting finish.
The kids built an impressive sandcastle, which James then accidentally destroyed while diving for a volleyball. He bought them ice cream as compensation.
The Stories
As the sun set, stories were shared around the fire:
- Tom's legendary story about his wetsuit splitting mid-swim (again)
- New member Lisa getting brilliant advice about her first triathlon
- Dave attempting to convince everyone that he's "definitely doing an Ironman next year" (we'll see, Dave)
- Plans hatched for autumn training camps
- Someone definitely agreed to organize Christmas party (was it you, Sarah?)
Community Spirit
These socials remind us why TTC is special. Yes, we push each other in training. Yes, we share tips and race strategies. But more importantly, we're a community. We celebrate each other's successes, support each other through challenges, and have a bloody good time together.
Next Social
Autumn bonfire scheduled for November - details coming soon. Rumor has it there might be a fancy dress theme (thanks for nothing, Emma).
If you're new to TTC or thinking about joining, come to the next social. Best way to meet the crew in a relaxed setting.
See you at the bonfire!
