Lake Swim Series Kicks Off with a Splash!
Summer swim season officially started last Wednesday as fifteen TTC members descended on Clearwater Lake for the first session of our weekly open water swim series.
The Conditions
Water temperature: a crisp 14°C (yes, wetsuits were definitely needed!)
Visibility: excellent
Wind: calm
Enthusiasm: through the roof!
The Session
We split into two groups - those comfortable with distance swimming and those building confidence in open water. Both groups had kayak support from our wonderful volunteers.
The confidence group practiced:
- Water entry and exit techniques
- Sighting and navigation
- Swimming in a straight line (harder than it looks!)
- Managing anxiety in open water
The distance group completed a 1500m loop, with some going on to complete a second lap.
Highlights
Emma conquered her fear of open water swimming! After months of pool training, she finally took the plunge and completed 400m with a massive smile on her face.
James's wetsuit split on entry - thankfully he had a backup in the car. Note to everyone: check your gear before the lake!
The post-swim hot chocolates were absolutely necessary and absolutely delicious.
Every Wednesday Evening
These sessions run every Wednesday at 6pm through to September. Whether you're a complete beginner or training for a race, there's a group for you. Kayak support, safety briefings, and friendly faces guaranteed.
Bring your wetsuit, bring a friend, bring your courage. See you at the lake!
