Saturday Morning Coastline Ride: 60km of Sunshine & Smiles
What a morning! Twenty TTC members gathered at the clubhouse at 7am sharp last Saturday for our monthly coastal ride, and mother nature delivered perfect cycling weather.
The Route
We tackled the scenic 60km coastal loop, taking in some of the best views our area has to offer. The route included:
- Flat coastal paths perfect for chatting and enjoying the scenery
- A challenging climb up Beacon Hill (some of us walked, no shame!)
- Beautiful views across the bay at the summit
- A thrilling descent back to sea level
- Coffee stop at Marina Café (their flapjacks are legendary)
The Group
From complete beginners to seasoned racers, the group split naturally into three paces which all regrouped at the coffee stop. Sarah led the faster group, maintaining a solid 30km/h average, while Emma's social pace group stopped for photos and generally had a brilliant time.
Special shout out to Mike and Jenny who joined their first ever group ride - you both smashed it!
Coffee Stop Stories
The Marina Café stop was the highlight for many. Over flat whites and those incredible flapjacks, race plans were discussed, bike maintenance tips were shared, and someone definitely promised to organize a club BBQ (looking at you, Dave).
Tom regaled us with stories from his recent Ironman attempt, and newcomer Jenny got brilliant advice on wetsuit shopping from about six people at once!
Next Ride
Our next coastal ride is scheduled for two weeks' time. We're planning a slightly longer route (75km) with an optional extension for those feeling ambitious. All abilities welcome - we never leave anyone behind!
Join us for the next one. There's nothing quite like a Saturday morning ride with the TTC crew.
